January updates

Greetings, and happy new year!  I hope your holiday has been a restful and joyous one.

LESSONS will resume on Monday, January 9th.    Lesson fees can be paid online (http://thestringbeans.blogspot.com/p/lesson-fees.html), or in person on or before the first lesson of the month.  We are about to begin a new term, so if you want to take advantage of the term discount now’s the time to do so.

GROUP CLASS and potluck will take place every other Wednesday.  Our first group class of the term will begin at 6:00pm on Wednesday, January 18th.  We will be working on theory, sight reading, rhythmic training, and new repertoire in group classes.    These will be multi-level group classes with something to challenge every violinist, but in general I will start classes by focusing on less-developed players and work up from there.   If your child reaches a point in class where she cannot meaningfully participate, please help her quietly observe the other students (puzzles, coloring, etc. is fine during this time) – this is a vital aspect of groups that helps musical growth tremendously.  After class we’ll dig in to a potluck dinner together before we say goodnight by 8:00pm.

HOME CONCERTS will begin in February, and I’m looking for a volunteer to host the first one.  If you’re interested in volunteering for February, please send me an email to let me know.  Home concerts will be mini-recitals where students can get the opportunity to play for and with each other and they can be as formal or as casual as the host chooses.  We will be selecting repertoire for the February Home Concert very soon, so please start to think about your choice.  My requirement for any performance is that you can play the entire piece without any major mistakes a full 6 weeks before the performance.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all next week!

With love,
Christine
